Medabrot Ivrit - نتكلّم العبريّة - Women Speaking Hebrew has been operating since 2013, providing Palestinian women in East Jerusalem with everyday Hebrew-language tools that enable them to act independently in both the public and private spheres.

The project emerged in response to a clear, on-the-ground need. Women in East Jerusalem have faced, and continue to face, language barriers across nearly every aspect of daily life, from accessing healthcare and navigating bureaucracy and public institutions to employment, higher education, and everyday interactions in the city. The absence of practical Hebrew limits access, undermines confidence, and deepens dependence.

Purpose and Approach

The goal of the program is to remove language barriers through practical, relevant Hebrew learning that is culturally and gender sensitive, designed specifically for Palestinian women from East Jerusalem.

The focus is on practical Hebrew - language that can be applied immediately in everyday life: when navigating public institutions, moving through public spaces, at work, and in personal and community initiatives.

The language tools acquired through the program strengthen women’s independence and self-confidence, enabling them to influence the different spheres of their lives - within their families, communities, professional settings, and civic life.
